Martin Luther King Day

In 1964, Martin Luther King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through non-violent means.

Dr. King is perhaps
most famous
for his "I Have a Dream"
speech, given in front of
the Lincoln Memorial
during the 1963 March
on Washington for Jobs
and Freedom.

What is it interesting about Nobel Peace Price? You can read some information below:

Facts on the Nobel Peace Prize

On 27 November 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his last will and testament, giving the largest share of his fortune to a series of prizes, the Nobel Prizes. As described in Nobel's will, one part was dedicated to "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses". 'I have a dream' is one of the most famous sentences that we have heard from King. Sixth Grade Kids have been working on this, and that is one of the first works that they did before they learnt about Martin Luther King:

Doctor, doctor,...!!!

Five-year-old students learnt the names of some of their body parts at the same time that they learnt how to say which part of their body was in pain.
They were learning body parts for three years, and most of them know "eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms, legs, tummy, toes, fingers, head, hands, feet".
They made up the song by changing the section of the body part. It was too much fun as they ususally called the doctors singing a song that says:

''What's the matter?
Let me see,
Doctor, doctor...!!!
My arms hurt me!!''

They also drew some pictures in relation to the song, They marked the body part in pain with big red spots. It was amazing how much they enjoyed the whole activity.

Over the deep blue sea

'Over the deep blue sea' is a song that everyone can have fun with. The next link is a simple example of this.

The school 'Lope de Vega' is working on a project about Pirates. Some of the teachers in the Bilingual Department have also wanted to do some activities related to that. And the small kids are the ones who had too much fun using customes, doing worksheets and the most fun, singing songs.

The song below is the one that the kids sang more, and the most important thing, they learnt a lot of vocabulary with that. And in the mean time they learnt the ABC alphabet.

"OVER THE DEEP BLUE SEA"
When I was one,
I had some fun
On the day I went to sea.
I hopped aboard the pirate ship
And the Captain said to me:
Oh we go this way, that way
Forward, backward
Over the deep blue sea.

When I was two,
I tied my shoes
On the day I went to sea. ....

When I was three,
I skinned my knee
On the day I went to sea, ...

When I was four,
I mopped the floor
On the day I went to sea, ...

When I was five,
I took a dive
On the day I went to sea, ...

Our Favourite Dates in January and February

Once again, you can read what the students in Sixth Grade decided about  their favourite dates in the months of January and February. As we said in September, they worked in the English Lesson on their favourite dates all along the year. Each one talked to their classmates and their teacher about some of their favourite dates. We have posted the first two months of the year below and this is what they said about, they are very interesting.
