The World Around Us Speak English
Our 6th grade students participated in a Language Immersion Program Fall 2013 during the period from 10 to 16 November. To do this, we traveled to the province of Cuenca to remain in the facilities of YMCA Camp. We shared experiences and activities with another primary school 'Otero Pedrayo' in Vigo, Pontevedra.
Throughout the day participants in the language immersion program participated in 4 working sessions of 2 hours each, including 90 minutes of work for the development of the program itself with the school teacher.
The program had as its main theme the environment and our impact on the planet, and translated into daily work based on the following areas of content : (The Earth , Water, Flora , Fauna, Human Impact on the Environment).
Each day of the week was centered on one of the above items, so that all activities, games, trips or stories were related to the specific topic.
• More specifically, the first session of the day was kind of preparatory. All the students had a working dossier that was provided by the YMCA.
• The second daily session was practical . In her outings, workshops and crafts related to the theme of the day were performed, thus :

The Earth: Making craft. Games with GPS. Viewing minerals
Water. Walking Tour to Escabas River. Approx. 1h 20 min round trip.
Flora: Making craft. Walk in the woods Mediterranean surrounding their facilities.
Fauna: Visit the Wildlife Recovery Centre "El Ardal ".
Human Impact : Presentations of eco-projects.
• The third meeting was held in the afternoon and it all materialized YMCA specific project, whose motto is LET'S IMPROVE THE WORLD TOGETHER. During this session students implemented aspects relating to the environment, teamwork, communication and leadership.
Its aim is the creation of a fictitious organization that knows the problems and challenges that are endangering our environment, assume commitments and provide solutions to them, each from their knowledge.
• The last session of the day was reserved for the accompanying teacher and the school project related or unrelated to the topic of the day.

School Day of Non-violence and Peace
The School Day of Non-violence and Peace (Día Escolar de la No-violencia), is an observance founded by the Spanish poet Llorenc Vidal Vidal in Majorca in 1964 as a point and support for a pacifying and non-violent education of a permanent character. The "School Day of Non-violence and Peace" is observed on January 30 every year, on the anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi, in schools all over the world. Its basic and permanent message is: "Universal love, non-violence and peace. Universal love is better than egoism, non-violence is better than violence, and peace is better than war".
Our School wish for this year 2014 was "A World full of Colour". Children made so many posters and sang the song 'Imagine' by John Lennon, in English. And the song 'Una sola voz' by Macaco in Spanish.

One more year, students in CEIP Lope de Vega are getting ready for our Spelling Bee Contest, the Fifth Annual Spelling Bee. Boys and girls are studying new words about different topics. First Cycle (six and seven year old children) and Second Cycle (eight and nine year old children) are spelling the different words. For the third year, Third Cycle (ten and eleven year old students) will have to recognize and pronounce correctly the words that teachers are spelling to them. We had another amazing and wonderful competition last year.

Roscón de Reyes
That is what you can read on one of the sides of the box. I hope you also enjoyed the special cake that Spanish people normally eat on January, 6th. Did you try it already?
''He aquí el Roscón de Reyes, tradición de un banquete en el cual hay dos sorpresas para los que tengan suerte. En él hay muy bien ocultos, un haba y una figura; el que lo vaya a cortar hágalo sin travesura. Quien en la boca se encuentre una cosa un tanto dura, a lo peor es el haba o a lo mejor la figura. Si es el haba lo encontrado este postre pagarás, más si es la figura, coronado Rey serás''.
